Science evaluation in Ukraine well on track

The 'Eval Science' project brought together researchers from the University of Bremen and from the Institute of Economics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences to develop a new methodology for the evaluation of science organisations in Ukraine. The project used quantitative and qualitative empirical approaches to develop assessment indicators based on the previous experience of the Leibniz Association.

Development of new anti-cancer medication: Landomycin A

According to a forecast by the World Health Organisation, cancer will be one of the main reasons for disease-related deaths globally in 2015. As a result, it is extremely important to develop new strategies for treatment, including for chemotherapy.

Chances of survival of stem cells in long-term storage

In regenerative medicine, stem cells (e.g. from the umbilical cord, bone marrow or placenta) offer great opportunities, because they are immunologically well-tolerated and can be obtained without ethical restrictions. Since storage for several years can result in reductions in quality, a large number of cells is frozen, which involves high costs.
